In 2011 Dr. Valorie Salimpoor made news when her study, conducted at McGill University, revealed that the experience of pleasure when listening to music was mediated by the release of the brain’s reward chemical, dopamine.

Now, she’s identified the brain’s music pleasure zone – the nucleus accumbens – and discovered the most popular songs actually elicit the strongest response.
